Startups for Global Pitch Event Announced

What is the Global Startup Search?
It’s a competition similar to American Idol, but for startup companies dedicated to improving the lives of older adults. More than 30 locations worldwide are hosting this event.

AGING IN THE COMMUNITY
Virtual reality allows seniors to visualize themselves in a community.

CAREGIVER PATHWAYS
A website offers personalized solutions and resources for caregivers.

DANCE4HEALING
Artificial Intelligence builds an ecosystem for the healing power of music.

HELLO NURSE
A wireless wet detection system using RFID technology used in skilled nursing.

NEUROCERN
A healthcare provider software for treating patients with dementia.

PT TRACK
A wearable device for physical therapy patients to track care plan compliance.

STACK LABS
Light sensors to track circadian rhythm and enable motion analytics.

How does the competition work?
After each startup pitches, the audience and judges will have the opportunity to ask questions. Real-time voting will score on the criteria of presentation quality, the overall idea and its impact on aging services. Winner will receive a free Entrepreneur Basic Membership to MEDSTART and $1,500 towards app design courtesy of Apptology, as well as moving forward to the next state of the global competition in San Francisco, October 2016.

Judges include: Randy Swanson, CEO, Care Innovations; Connie Samla, Lighting Specialist, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD); Rich Foreman, CEO, Apptology; Robert Groth, VP Program Development, MEDSTART; and Karen Robinson, retired RN, Eskaton Village Carmichael.
