This is a common question that comes from adult children who are concerned for their aging mom. The statistics about older women who are on a fixed income show that this is a very widespread issue.
As part of Eskaton’s commitment to enhance the quality of lives of older adults through innovative health, housing and social services, we believe that partnerships are a primary way to deepen and expand our mission throughout the region.

What type of place do you think of when you hear the phrase ‘senior living community’? If a bland, boring, one size fits all community is what comes to mind then you do not have the full picture of your options. High quality senior living communities can provide top notch care in an area you want to be along with resort style amenities. If you are looking for a senior living community that fits your needs there are more options than ever before.
The place you live has a significant impact on your daily life, especially as you age. When your current home no longer meets your needs then you should start considering your alternatives. The good news is that there are more options than ever before for seniors looking to make a change in their living situation. If you need some help with the decision, below are five questions you can ask yourself to get clear on your wants and needs.
The aging process is different for each person. Your needs may be significantly different than those of someone who is the same age as you. This variation makes it difficult to establish guidelines for senior living communities based solely on age. In order for a community to cater specifically to senior adults there does have to be a minimum age, typically 55 or 62 depending on location and services. But, your age is only one element you need to consider as you think about moving into a senior living community.
Have you made the decision that a senior living community is the best option for you? You may feel a temporary sense of relief now that you have decided on the next step in your journey. However, that relief may be short lived once you realize how many senior living options there are in your area. Having options is a good thing but too many can become overwhelming. Learning about senior living is the first step on the journey toward making a decision. In addition to your online search, ask around to find people you know who have personal experience with senior living. Once you have narrowed down the options, touring the communities will give you the last bit of knowledge you need to make an informed choice.
